No. 3 SI Uniflow

The Carter Day No. 3SI Uniflow is a 17-inch diameter, high-efficiency length separator designed for precise, reliable grading of cereal grains, pulses, and other free-flowing granular materials. Built for performance and versatility, the 3SI allows manual, individual cylinder speed adjustments, giving operators full control over separation accuracy.

The unit features a variable-speed HTD drive system, consisting of a spring-loaded V-belt sheave mounted on the motor. Cylinder rotation speed can be quickly adjusted using the external cylinder speed wheel, which shifts the motor base and changes the input speed to the worm gear reducer. This system provides smooth, consistent operation while enabling fine-tuned product handling.

For enhanced performance, the No. 3SI can also be equipped with the optional adjustable retarder system used on Modular Uniflow models. This retarder improves separation results by controlling the amount of product retained inside the cylinder, ensuring more consistent and precise length grading.

With a segmented cylinder design, high-capacity inlet, HTD cylinder drive, and easy clean-out accessibility, the 3SI Uniflow delivers accurate separations, dependable operation, and user-friendly adjustments for modern grain and seed processing facilities.

The Carter Day Modular Uniflow is a 17-inch diameter, high-efficiency length separator designed for facilities that need maximum flexibility and throughput. Using a patented Universal Drive System, the Modular Uniflow supports a wide range of cylinder arrangements and can operate with both segmented and solid cylinders, making it adaptable to nearly any length-based separation requirement.

Its modular vertical design provides exceptional versatility for processors. Each self-contained module can be easily broken down for shipment, moved into place, and reassembled on-site. This modularity also allows processors to reconfigure their equipment in the field as product demands change, without replacing the entire machine. Because each vertical stack uses identical components, maintenance is simplified and long-term replacement needs are significantly reduced.

The Modular Drive System features a motor-mounted right-angle reducer connected to a PTO shaft. This shaft transfers power to a three-way distribution box, driving each cylinder smoothly from a protected, centralized mechanism. The result is efficient, consistent cylinder rotation with reduced wear and lower operating costs.

The Carter Day Modular Precision Sizer is engineered for highly accurate width and thickness separations in grain, seed, and free-flowing granular materials. Designed with a modular, field-configurable structure, the Precision Sizer provides exceptional flexibility, allowing processors to adapt cylinder types, aperture sizes, and stack configurations as processing needs evolve.

This machine utilizes four specialized cylinder styles: Funlsizer®, Round Ribbed, Tri-Bar, and Slotted, each designed for precise sizing applications across a wide range of commodities. With more than 125 different perforation sizes, the Precision Sizer can be configured for virtually any separation requirement, including corn, barley, rice, wheat, soybeans, sunflower, peanuts, and specialty crops.

Available in both 12-inch and 24-inch cylinder models, the Precision Sizer offers identical drive systems across both sizes. The 24-inch model delivers twice the capacity of a comparable 12-inch setup while maintaining a compact footprint suitable for container shipping. Cylinders are designed for easy change-out: lightweight, one-piece construction for 12-inch units and a manageable three-piece design for 24-inch models.

The advanced drive system eliminates chains and sprockets, relying instead on a smooth, quiet V-belt design with individual reducers at each module. This ensures optimized speed and tension control, long component life, and consistent performance. Each cylinder also features indexed cleaning wheels that gently return near-sized material back into the cylinder for additional separation, making the system fully self-cleaning without damaging the grain.

Disc Separator

The Carter Day Disc Separator is a high-precision length-grading machine engineered for reliable removal of short or long particles in grains, seeds, and other free-flowing materials. Using a rotating horizontal shaft fitted with cast discs, each containing hundreds of undercut pockets, the machine lifts shorter product out of the material stream while conveying longer product to a separate discharge. This allows exceptionally accurate length-based separation in a single pass, even when handling mixed grains such as wheat, oats, barley, rice, and specialty seeds.

Multiple pocket styles (V, R, A, MM, J) enable fine-tuned performance based on product shape and density. Adjustable retarders, reclaim doors, and lifting inspection doors give operators complete control over burden depth, cut-points, and clean-out. Carter Day’s cast discs (solid or split) offer unmatched durability, with split-disc options reducing downtime during replacement, and solid discs rated for millions of bushels of throughput.
