I. A Used Gravity Separator Ready for Work

This LMC Model 401 is a used gravity separator that has been reconditioned and is in excellent running condition. It finishes seed and grain by weight, pulling out the light, damaged, and heavy material that screens and aspirators leave behind because it's the same size as good product.

The 401 is the second of five sizes in this LMC gravity series, rated at 100 to 125 bushels per hour on wheat. That makes it a good fit for a farm seed plant or a smaller processing line that needs a cleaner, heavier final product.

One 5 HP motor drives both the fan and the eccentric shake, so there's a single motor to wire and maintain. It's on sale this fall at $26,250 CAD from our Saskatoon shop.

II. How a Gravity Separator Works

A gravity separator sorts kernels of the same size by how heavy they are, in four stages.

1

Infeed

Product enters at the infeed and spreads across a sloped, rippled, perforated deck surface.

2

Air Lift

The fan blows air up through the deck. Lighter foreign material lifts and floats on the air, while heavier kernels stay in contact with the deck.

3

Shake and Stratify

The eccentric shake walks the heavy kernels uphill on the ripple deck, while the light kernels drift downhill. The product spreads into bands from heavy to light.

4

Discharge

Each band leaves through its own outlet: rock, heavies, mids, and lights.

III. What This Used Gravity Separator Removes

This used gravity separator works on any dry, free-flowing product. It catches what sizing equipment can't.

01

Light and Shrivelled Kernels

Immature, shrivelled, and frost-damaged kernels weigh less than good seed and move to the lights outlet.

02

Insect and Disease Damage

Hollowed-out and diseased kernels are lighter than healthy seeds, so they separate out even when they are the same physical size.

03

Stones and Heavy Material

Stones, dirt clods, and other heavy contaminants travel to the high side of the deck and leave through the rock outlet.

04

Higher Germination

Keeping the heaviest, best-filled kernels raises the germination and seed weight of the finished lot.

V. Questions About This Used Gravity Separator

1

Where is this used gravity separator located?

It's at Vistasort's shop at 835-58th Street East in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Contact us to arrange a time to see it.

2

How much can the LMC 401 handle?

This unit is rated at 100 to 125 bushels per hour on wheat. Capacity changes with the crop, the size of the seed, and how close a separation you need, so tell us what you're running and we'll confirm.

3

What power does it need?

A single 5 HP motor drives both the fan and the eccentric shake. Contact us to confirm the voltage and phase before you plan the electrical hookup.

4

Can I see the used gravity separator running before I buy?

Yes. You're welcome to make an appointment to inspect it in person in Saskatoon before you buy.

5

Do you deliver, and can you install it?

Yes, delivery is available if you need it, though most buyers pick up from our Saskatoon shop. Installation can be arranged.

6

What does a gravity separator remove?

It separates product by weight when kernels are about the same size and shape. It pulls out light, shrivelled, immature, and insect-damaged kernels, and removes stones and other heavy material, which screens and aspirators can miss.
