Carter Day Uni-Flow Indent Separator
This Carter Day Uni-Flow indent separator has only been used as a show demo. A single 17-inch indented cylinder separates seed and grain by length, and the whole unit sits on a wheeled steel stand.

I. A Carter Day Uni-Flow, Used Only for Show
The Carter Day Uni-Flow is the original indented cylinder length grader, built by a company that has made processing equipment for more than 140 years. It separates product by kernel length, removing short material such as broken kernels and small weed seeds, or lifting good grain away from longer material like oats.
This single cylinder unit has only been used as a show demo, so it offers nearly new condition at a used equipment price.
Vistasort is an Authorized Carter Day Dealer, with 40+ years installing Carter Day equipment. Parts and service support for this machine are available from our Saskatoon shop.

II. How the Carter Day Uni-Flow Works
The rotating cylinder sorts product by length in four stages.
Feed
Product enters the indented cylinder through the inlet. A slide gate controls the feed rate.
Lifting
As the cylinder turns, short material settles into the indent pockets that line its inside surface and is carried up and out of the grain mass.
Separation
Near the top of the turn, the pockets tip and the short material drops into the lifting trough. The operator sets the trough edge on the numbered dial and adjusts cylinder speed to fine-tune the cut.
Discharge
A screw conveyor in the trough carries the lifted short material out one spout. The longer material that stays in the cylinder flows out the other end.

IV. Typical Capacities
Carter Day's figures for a 17-inch Uni-Flow, one cylinder high, at 95% or better separation. Output depends on the crop, how much needs to be removed, and the indent size. Bushel figures are approximate conversions.
| Crop and Application | Approximate Output |
|---|---|
| Wheat, splitting | 8 to 9 t/h (about 295 to 330 bu/h) |
| Wheat, seed cleaning | 1.5 to 3.6 t/h (about 55 to 130 bu/h) |
| Wheat, oat removal | 5.4 t/h (about 200 bu/h) |
| Barley, splitting | 5.4 to 6.5 t/h (about 250 to 300 bu/h) |
| Barley, seed cleaning | 1.75 to 3 t/h (about 80 to 140 bu/h) |
| Barley, oat removal | 3.5 to 4.8 t/h (about 160 to 220 bu/h) |
| Oats, splitting | 2.5 to 5 t/h (about 160 to 325 bu/h) |
| Oats, seed and wheat removal | 0.7 to 2 t/h (about 45 to 130 bu/h) |
| Oats, stick removal | 1.8 to 3 t/h (about 115 to 195 bu/h) |
V. Where the Carter Day Uni-Flow Fits
An indent separator finishes what an air-screen cleaner can't, because it sorts by length instead of width or weight.
Seed Cleaning
Removes broken kernels and short weed seeds so only full-size seed goes to the bag.
Oat Removal
Lifts wheat or barley away from longer oats that screens can't pull out.
After the Air-Screen Cleaner
Runs after a pre-cleaner or air-screen machine as the length grading step in a seed plant.
Portable Setup
The wheeled stand makes it easy to move within your plant or set up for smaller batches.
VI. Questions About the Carter Day Uni-Flow
Where is the Carter Day Uni-Flow located?
It's at Vistasort's shop at 835-58th Street East in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Contact us to arrange a time to see it.
Has this Carter Day Uni-Flow been used?
Only as a show demo. It was used for display, so it's in nearly new condition.
What can the Carter Day Uni-Flow separate?
It separates seed and grain by length. Common jobs include removing broken kernels and short weed seeds, cleaning seed wheat and barley, and lifting wheat or barley away from oats. What it removes depends on the indent size of the cylinder.
Which indent cylinder is installed?
Contact us to confirm the indent size in this unit. We can help you match the right cylinder to your crop.
Can I see it running before I buy?
Usually not. A machine like this needs to be installed in a working plant with product running through it, so it can't be run at our shop. You're welcome to inspect it in person in Saskatoon before you buy.
Do you deliver, and can you install it?
Yes, delivery is available if you need it, though most buyers pick up from our Saskatoon shop. Installation can be arranged.
